Scrappers win 28-24
NASHVILLE – For the second consecutive week, the Nashville Scrappers thrilled their home fans with a late score to win a district game. Facing fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line and trailing with just 1:43 to play, the Scrappers called on junior Tesean Green. Green took the direct snap, was initially met and stopped at the line of scrimmage. But a heroic second effort saw Green twist his body and stretch the ball across the goal line to give Nashville a 28-24 come-from-behind win over Pulaski Robinson. With the win, Nashville keeps its playoff hopes alive and improves to 2-3 in the 7-4A and 3-5 overall this season. “It was a big win for us,” said Nashville head coach Tim Perry. “They’re all big from here on out. We found a way to win. I think last week helped us with that.” The Scrappers found themselves trailing when they took over at their own 37 with just 7:07 to play in the game. Jakaree Gaines picked up 6 yards. Joel Hendry then threw to Ryan Forte for 7 yards to the 50-yard line. Hendry then kept for an 11-yard gain to the Robinson 39. Two plays later, facing third-and-9, Hendry rolled to his left, then threw back right to Green who fought for 14 yards. Four plays later, the Scrappers had moved to the Senators’ 3 yard line facing third-and-goal with just 2:22 to play. Green took the snap on third down and muscled down to the 1-yard line. Following a time out with just 1:48 to play, the Scrappers had just one play remaining to pull off the win. On fourth-and-goal, Green again took the snap for the winning score.
