Golf is off to a good start. The teams have finished first or second in their first three matches.
The Scrappers hosted their first home match of the golf season at Nashville Country Club on August 17. Golfers from Ashdown, DeQueen, and Dierks participated along with the Scrappers. In the boys division, the Scrappers won the event with a team score of 123. Ashdown was second with 125, and DeQueen third at 152. Team scoring in golf is figured by taking the total of the three low scores of the designated four man team.
The Scrappers were led by seniors Tyler Lawrence and Justin Kelley. Lawrence was medalist with a 39 and Kelley had the second best score at 41. Other Scrapper scores – Aaron Shanks 43, Luke Dawson 44, Jerrad Jones 44, Michael Steele 45, Austin Shanks 45, Andy
Graves 53, and Tres Dunn 56.
In the girls division, DeQueen won with a team score of 136 and the Scrapperettes were second at 162. The Leopard’s Kirbi Hinton was medalist with a 44. Scrapperette scores were Marissa McCammack 49, Kamie Westbrook 56, Nicole Drummond 57, and Hayden kirchoff 59.
The Nashville Golf Team had a match at DeQueen on Monday, August 23. Schools participating along with the Scrappers were Ashdown, Dierks, Foreman, and DeQueen.
In the boys division, Nashville tied with Ashdown for the win with team scores of 118. DeQueen was third at 140 and Foreman had 142. The Scrappers were again led by their two seniors – Justin Kelley and Tyler Lawrence. Kelley was medalist with a 37 and Lawrence had the second best score in the match with a 38. Other Nashville scores were Aaron Shanks 43, Jerrad Jones 56, Michael Steele 43, Luke Dawson 47, Austin Shanks 44, Andy Graves 43, and Tres Dunn 45.
In the girls division, DeQueen was an easy winner with a team score of 128. The Scrapperettes were second at 156 and Foreman third at 190. The medalist in the girl’s division was the Leopards Kirbi Hinton with a 37. Scrapperette scores were Marissa McCammack 53, Nicole Drummond 55, Kami Westbrook 48, and Hayden Kirchoff 62.
Nashville traveled to Malvern on Thursday, August 26 for a golf match featuring boys and girls teams from six schools. Along with the Scrappers and Malvern, teams from DeQueen, Bauxite, Pulaski Academy, and Ashdown participated.
In the boys division, the scoring was close with Malvern shooting a score of 124. They were two strokes ahead of the Scrappers at 126 and Pulaski Academy had 127. Other scores were Ashdown 138, DeQueen 142 and Bauxite 163. The Malvern Leopard’s Bradley Leming was medalist with even par 36. The Scrappers were led by Tyler Lawrence with a 40. Other Scrapper scores were Michael Steele 42, Aaron Shanks 44, Luke Dawson 43, Justin Kelley 48, Austin Shanks 47, Tres Dunn 51, and Jerrad Jones 48.
In the girls division, DeQueen was first with 145 followed by the Scrapperettes with 151. Bauxite finished third in the girls team division. DeQueen’s Kirbi Hinton was medalist with a 44. Scrapperette scores were Marissa McCammack 49, Nicole Drummond 53, Kamie Westbrook 49, and Hayden Kirchoff 57.
The team plays again on August 31 at 3:30 in Ashdown.
Sites for the district tournaments have been set. Four person teams from each of the district schools will play in the district tournaments.
The girls will play at Ashdown September 14 at 10:30 am.
The boys district will be hosted by Nashville High School and the Nashville Country Club on September 21 at 10:30 am.
