Scrapper Track Honored at Banquet

The annual Scrapper Sports Banquet was held Tuesday, May 23. The boys track team was honored for their accomplishments from the 2023 track season. The boys won two meets during the outdoor season, including the hometown Scrapper Relays for the first time in a decade. The team was the 7-4A district runner-up.

Awards include:
Joe Lee Goodrum Award - Kyle Whiteman
Whiteman led the team with 114 points on the season, including being the high point award winner at the 7-4A District Meet. Whiteman scored in three events at the 4A State Meet, and held team best performances in four events.

Outstanding Jumper/All-State - Alex Sullivan
Sullivan score 89 points during the year, the majority coming from the pole vault which he won 7 times. He is the 3-time defending district pole vault champion. He finished 2nd at the state meet and completed his career with a personal best of 13' 8".

Outstanding Thrower - Omari Benson
Benson qualified for the state meet in the shot put with a throw of 48' 8" on his first throw of the season. He placed 8th at the state meet and led Scrapper throwers with 59 points.

Outstanding Sprinter - Kelvin Flowers
Flowers was an exceptional all-around athlete, scoring in 6 events throughout the season. He led all sprinters with 71.5 points scored.

Outstanding Distance - Josh Feltenberger
Feltenberger led all distance runners with 56.5 points spread across the three distance races and the 4x800 relay.

The team also had ten individuals recognized as All-District and State Meet Qualifiers: Richard Barton, Jake Brinkman, Alex Sullivan, Roochie Wiley, Omari Benson, Kyle Whiteman, Rees Davis, Josh Feltenberger, Seth Feltenberger, and Tamarques Eason.
